Lunes is seven years old - and already a regular member of the municipal library in Königs Wusterhausen. He finds the place simply perfect. Well, almost!
I was three when I moved with my parents to Königs Wusterhausen near Berlin. Since then we have spent a lot of time in the municipal library. Most of the time I go there straight after school. My parents pick me up at the bus station and from there it is only five minutes by bike to the library.
The first thing I have to do there is to lock away my schoolbag, then I can start browsing the bookshelves. There is a CD attached to the locker key, so you do not lose it so easily. Somehow I find that a bit weird, because you cannot listen to this CD! All the other things in the library are fortunately hands-on and can be used by the library-goers - there are not only books, but also DVDs and games, for example.

In the children's library, I like the “rummage boxes” that are full of books. I am always happy when I dive into the boxes and come across children's books which I have at home – that is funny. Before, my parents had to read aloud to me. I still think that is nice, but soon I'll be in the second grade and can read the books on my own.

One place I particularly like is the Cosy Corner in the children's library. It has a kind of raised platform covered with seat cushions. You can sit there and read or play with the cuddly toys. Sometimes other children are there too, then I chat with them.

The staff of the library are also so friendly and helpful. When I have a question, I just go to them. Once I borrowed a book from the library for which we downloaded a “lullaby” app. I would really like to take the book out again, but I just cannot find it. Maybe the man behind the counter can help me.

To be honest, I think the library is a perfect place. It is a pity that it is closed on Wednesdays. Just then, when I feel the need to go there!

Lunes (born in 2010), is in the first grade at the Montessori Primary School in Königs Wusterhausen.
The Königs Wusterhausen Municipal Library was founded in 1913 and has been located on the upper floor of a commercial building in the centre of this small town in Brandenburg for more than 100 years. Covering an area of more than 1,000 square meters, it offers more than 55,000 examples of print media, including 13,000 children's and youth media: picture books, stories, novels, fairy tales, poems, comics, manga comics, non-fiction books and, of course, a wide range of games.
