Augsburg
International Violin Competition Leopold Mozart

Since 1987 the Leopold-Mozart-Kuratorium Augsburg e. V. in association with the Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum at the University of Augsburg have held an international triennial competition for young aspiring violinists. The eponymous Leopold Mozart (1719-1787) was born in Augsburg, Bavaria, where he had his famous treatise on violin playing, the Gründliche Violinschule, printed in 1756 - the year his son Wolfgang Amadeus was born. The goal of the Leopold Mozart International Violin Competition is to promote today’s young up-and-coming musicians on the basis of this great textbook for violinists. Artistic director of the competition is Linus Roth, honorary president Salvatore Accardo.
