In 1993 conductor/composer Jan Koetsier (1911–2006) set up an eponymous foundation at the Munich Academy of Music and Theatre specifically with a view to promoting the international image of brass chamber music.
Its flagship event is the Jan Koetsier Brass Chamber Music Competition, held by the foundation along with the Munich Academy every other year since 1999.
