Every other year the Munich Academy of Music and Theatre, in association with the GEMA foundation, holds the Günter Bialas Competition for Composition.
Aspiring composers up to 35 years of age are invited to submit unpublished works for varying combinations of instruments. Composer Günter Bialas (1907–1995) taught at the Munich Academy from 1959–1972, serving as teacher, mentor, and role model for subsequent generations of composers.

The prize-winning work(s) will be premiered in a concert at Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
On that occasion, prize winners will be awarded their prizes.
Prize money
Up to three prices can be awarded.
