The wide-ranging cultural and creative scene in Senegal is vibrant and exciting, with daily concerts taking place in the capital Dakar, a supra-regional festival scene has established itself and new, promising pieces of music are constantly being produced. Despite the high level of commitment on the part of active entrepreneurs, the sector is not yet able to exploit its full potential and is confronted with various challenges such as inadequate qualification, training and continuing education formats. To address some of these issues, the Goethe-Institut Senegal has been collaborating with local and international experts in the music sector. Intensive research has been conducted to better understand and promote the needs of the sector. This collaboration has resulted in 9-month training programmes in the music industry and event technology, as well as a regular salon for music journalists.
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the Goethe-Institut promote the emerging market of cultural and creative industries in Africa and in the Middle East.
